Studio layout

So with the final show coming up we all had to sort our studio spaces out and decided where we wanted our to placed.

I decided that i was going to have my two 4ftx4ft on the walls, off my studio along with my two smaller canvas’s next to them.

on the image above i have my 4ft canvas place on the inner wall closer to the window and have the smaller canvas places on the outer wall.

on this image above i have the other 4ft canvas but have placed it on the outer wall, so it is facing the other smaller canvas and then i have the next smaller canvas on the inner wall, closer to the window and facing the other 4ft canvas.

I know their isnt much on the walls off my studio but im really pleased with how my work and has been placed.

Chuck Close Artist Research

Chuck Close is an American artist who is known for his large scale photorealist portraits. He constructs the paintings through a grid system, in where each square on the canvas corrosponds with a squared of cell on the referenced photograph.

Focusing mainly on self portraits or portraits of his family and friends including the artists Richard Serra, Alex Kartz, Cindy Sherman and Cecily Brown.

Close’s compositions come into focus the further an observer stands from them.

These are just some examples off Chuck’s stunningly amazing work that he creates.

Katie M Berggren Artist Research

Katie M Berggren an American mother and child painter celebrating breastfeeding, whimsical family portraits and child and baby paintings. She has created paintings and prints to be hung in homes of families in over 60+ countries.

For me katies work protrays the essence of family, love, childhood, and a beautiful connection to those who are in the portraits which I feel is important in paintings of familys.

Some examples below

These are just a few examples off Katies beautifully amazing work, they all have many different colours intertwined and incorporated into the paintings. All off her works speaks for it’s self in it’s own special way and they all have their own meaning.

Amanda Greavette Artist Research

Amanda Greavette is an oil painter located in Muskoka, Ontario Canada. While she is busy raising five rabunctious children she still manages to create beautifully detailed and life like birth paintings

Examples of her work below

Alot of Amandas painting are of women either going through labour or just after labour and yes some of them are bloody or somewhat gruesome but that’s the reality of bringing a child into this world.

Catie Atkinson Artist Research

Motherhood is beautiful – and it is this beauty that inspires artist and mum Catie Atkinson to create paintings that captures the process of pregnancy, birth, and rearing a child.

For Atkinson, who has been creating for as long as she can remember, her own pregnancy with her son inspired her to focus on birth and motherhood art, nine years ago.

For me Caties artwork is relatable as a mother but also beautiful as art she has created many many paintings over the past nine years and all are related to birth, having a child and nursing a child/baby.

Thomas Saliot Artist Research

Thomas a profesional painter who lives in Marjoca Spain, where he paints simple iconic images either from the internet or from his life as big oil paintings. He has been painting for over 30 years and all off his paintings he makes are such beautiful pieces.

Some of his work below

“Dirty hands”

“The impossible cool”

“White hands”

These paintings are some of my favourite ones that Saliot has made.

Dirty Hands is a piece of work he created of someones dirty hands the way he has made the dirt on the hands look so real. The tones of black grey and possible yellow and green to make the dirt almost make it look like the dirt could be oil from somewhere. The detail of the hands and the finger nails in general look very much like real finger nails.

The impossible cool is a painting for someone’s hand sticking out of water (pool or sea) doing the peace sign with their fingers. The crease’s in the hand from the way the hand is look amazing all the different colours he hand used to create the colour and shadowing of the hand it looks like he has used many different colours there are fleks of pinks, yellows, blues, browns and possible a little bit of green coming through and just make the hand look very realistic.

White hands is of course what the title of the painting is which is white hands but i love how he has painted, the hands white and added a little bit of blue coming through on the wrist, it almost looks like the hands are clouds with the sky coming through on the wrist which is beautiful. I love the way that he has still managed to get the details in on the hands even with them being white he has got the outlining of the finger nails and in some parts their are details off the knuckels.

Daniel Maidman Artist Research

Daniel Maidman (born 1975) is a painter and art writer who lives in Brooklyn, New York. His art and writing reflects eclectic tastes, with an emphasis on realism.

Daniel is another artist i looked at for inspiration for my hands final piece.

Some of his work below

The first image is not a painting it is a drawing that he has done of a hand and even though it is not a painting the detail he has added for the crease’s and lines of the hand and the white pencil to add some light to the hand is amazing.

The other two hands are paintings they look so realistic and life like, the colours that he has used and the shading if the pink tones in the hands and all the small details in them makes them look they are real hands.

Kimberly Vandenberg Artist Reseach

Kimberly Vandenberg is a lifelong painter, beginner her study of acrylic as a young child. Her passion for natural beauty is seen in her work as she transforms landscape into stunning interpretations of bold naturalistic color.

She has a lot of beautiful painting that are hand and water themed there is always either one or two hands in the painting and water. I looked at Kimberly Vandenberg for inspiration on hands because one of the final pieces im doing is based on hands. I decided to look at some artists for inspiration first to get an idea off how they painted the hands in their work.

Below is some of Kimberly Vandenberg’s work

The colour and detail in the painting its self is amazing they look so realistic and i think that they look more like photographs than paintings which is beautiful. But the detailing in the hands them selves the way she has painted the colour of them and the shadowing and lighting is amazing. I dont no how she has managed to make the water parts of the paintings look so realistic but its so beautiful and really helped me with getting ideas on the shadowing and lighting and what colours to go off when it comes to painting my own work.

Art & Context Second Final Piece

After doing my first final piece for art and context I found two smaller canvas’s that I had in the house not really sure the size of them but I decided to do two smaller pieces to go along size my larger pieces.

So after finding two more photos of my daughters. The ones below I then put them in adobe photoshop and digitalised them with the threshold filter like I did with the other two.

Digitalised images below After photoshopping the images I then had to photocopy them and make them bigger as when you print a photoshopped image off them seem to print off quiet small so I had to make them bigger to fit onto the canvas’s to trace on.

Once I had the images traced onto the canvas’s I then painted them with my fingers but with them being a much smaller size the detailed parts of the image I had to paint with a paint brush as they were to small to paint with my fingers and they were to small to allow the girls to put hand prints in the background aswell but I still liked the way they turned out.

Finished pieces below

Art & Context First Final Piece

For my art and context first fina piece I knew I wanted to do something that involved my dayghters so after speaking with my tutor and thinking long and hard I finally knew what i wanted to do.

I decided to digitally munipulate two images of my daughters in adobe photoshop and put the threshold filter on the images.

These are the originally photos before being digitally munipulted

These are the images once they have been digitalised. After doing this i then had to think about what size canvas i wanted to place these on as i knew i wanted to paint them with my fingers because the images are simple enough to paint with fingers and i knew i needed to start of somewhat easy when painting with my fingers as this was also my first try.

Finally i decided to put these two images on two seperate 4ftx4ft canvas’s. So after projectiong them onto the canvas’s i then got to work painting the black parts of the painting with my hands and while i was painting i decided that once the black paint had dried i wanted my daughters to have some involment as well so i got them to put their hands in white paint and place hand prints in the black parts of the background. The final product of my paintings once they had dried
